Practical Herbalism – Saturday, April 25, 2026 – 1 to 4 PM
$75.00
Our practical herbalism class is designed to help you explore the world of medicinal herbs that are all around us, with a focus on herbs that are commonplace, safe, easy to identify and can be grown in containers and home gardens.
You’ll learn how to pick, prepare, process and store herbs, including using a food dehydrator as well as traditional drying methods. You’ll also get hands-on experience in using herbs to make tea, tinctures and extracts, as well as infusing oils with herbs that can then be used to make soaps, salves and lotions.
We’ll make a tincture and salve in class that each student gets to take some of home with them, along with making their own herbal tea blends. Students will get a PDF with recipes for tinctures and salves as well as other materials and topics covered in class.
This class will focus on common herbs found in Tennessee (and the broad southeastern US) including calendula (marigolds), dandelion, broadleaf plantain, yarrow, elderberry and mullein but the basic principles and preparations also apply to a wide range of medicinal herbs.
